Enrolment to study at NAISDA in 2024 is through an application and audition process.

NAISDA is pleased to offer an online application and audition option for those who missed out on the opportunity to attend our onsite auditions.

If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander young person aged 16 or over with a passion for dance and performing arts, we invite you to complete the online application form.

Applications to study at NAISDA in 2024 are open for the following courses. Please note there are prerequisites for course entry which are explained in our Course Information Guide.   • 10988NAT Certificate III in Dance Practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
    Who Can Apply?
    This course is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people between 16 and 26 years of age who may have some or no dance or cultural training but have a passion for dance and culture.
  • 11051NAT Certificate IV in Dance Practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
    Who Can Apply?
    This course is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people between 16 and 26 years of age, with prior dance or cultural training and a passion for dance and culture.
  • 11052NAT Diploma of Professional Dance Performance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
    Who Can Apply?
    This course is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people between 16 and 26 years of age who have had extensive professional dance and have a passion for dance and culture.
  • 10841NAT Advanced Diploma of Professional Dance Performance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
    Who Can Apply?
    The Advanced Diploma is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists entering their final 18 months of study before progressing to a professional dance career; or for artists already practising within the industry wishing to upskill their professional practice.

NAISDA’s nationally accredited courses are rich in cultural learning and practice and are intended to provide skills, applied knowledge, theoretic knowledge and cultural Knowings across a range of dance genres from contemporary to cultural dance, with the primary intention of preparing for successful careers in the performing arts.

Application & Auditions Process

Keen to apply? Great! Here’s how the process works.

Step 1 – Apply

Read through the Course Information Pack and Application & Auditions Guide.

Complete the Application Form before 20 November 2023. The application takes about 10 minutes to complete. Ideally, you’ll have photo ID ready to upload to provide evidence of identity.

You will receive an email confirming your application has been received (check your email SPAM folder if you don’t see your confirmation email) and NAISDA will then contact you to advise next steps.

Step 2 – Online Auditions

Successful candidates will be invited to participate in:

  • A two-hour online audition workshop including warmup and a set piece of choreography which you will be asked to learn and perform for a panel of NAISDA trainers and staff
  • A 20-minute, online individual interview with NAISDA staff

Online auditions and interviews will be conducted Tuesday 28 November and Wednesday 29 November.

We will be hosting four audition/interview sessions:

  • 9am-1pm, Tuesday 28 November
  • 1pm-5pm, Tuesday 28 November
  • 9am-1pm, Wednesday 29 November
  • 1pm-5pm, Wednesday 29 November

You need to ensure you are available for the full period of one of these four sessions. We will contact successful candidates to arrange an audition session most convenient to you.

Successful audition candidates will need to ensure they have the necessary IT equipment (such as computer, laptop or phone with microphone, camera, internet access), available space to dance, water and comfortable dance clothes. Step 3 – Study Offers

Following auditions, NAISDA’s review panel will meet and all auditionees will be contacted. Successful auditionees will receive within two weeks, an offer to study at NAISDA in 2024.

Step 4 – Support Assessments

Successful auditionees will be asked to undertake the following assessments before commencing their NAISDA training to determine support requirements

  • Physiotherapy assessment
  • Wellbeing assessment
  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment

We will contact you to make the necessary arrangements for these assessments.

Key Dates

20 November 2023 – Applications close.
28 – 29 November 2023 – Online auditions and interviews (note you only need to make yourself available for one morning or one afternoon session during these two days).
Early December 2023 – Successful auditionees contacted with Study Offers.
30 January 2024 – Term One commences.

Application & Audition Terms and Conditions

By submitting your application form you agree to the following terms and conditions.

  • The information provided on the form is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
  • You provide consent for the information to be used by NAISDA for the purposes of the 2023 Application and Audition process and understand that if successful, you will be invited to a three-day onsite audition.
  • You provide consent for NAISDA to use the contact information in any saved or partially completed applications for the purposes of the 2023 application process.
  • Submission of the application does not guarantee an audition invitation.
  • Online applications for NAISDA courses (that commence in 2024) close on 20 November 2023.
  • There are a limited number of places available. Selection is based on merit; not all applicants who meet the published entry requirements will receive a study offer.
  • All applicants are required to review the Application & Audition Guide and Course Information Pack.
  • NAISDA regrets that it is not possible to provide applicants with individual written or oral feedback on their application.
  • Applicants who receive a Study Offer for 2024 must accept the offer within the time frame indicated within the Study Offer.
  • Study at NAISDA expects that all students are fully vaccinated under NSW Government recommendations.
