From a small, inner-Sydney dance workshop ignited by 1970s political-cultural activism, NAISDA became the birthplace of Australian contemporary Indigenous dance; the generator of a First Nations creative industry and two international dance companies including the renowned Bangarra Dance Theatre.
Today we are the only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation in the Federal Government’s Arts8 Roundtable of national arts training organisations. Our student completion rate is double the national average for Vocational Education and Training in Australia with 75% of NAISDA students completing their qualifications.*.
Our graduates are sought by leading national and international performing arts organisations and play a key role in affirming Australia’s powerful cultural image internationally through global performances at milestone events including the Sydney Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
