Jericho Lacey

My name is Jericho M. Lacey, I’m from a small place called Nyinyikay Homeland, that’s in North East Arnhem Land. I’m a Yolngu man, my tribe is Dhalwangu, my skin name is Ngarritj, my moiety is Yirritja, and my totem is a cormorant (sea bird) which is an Yirritja animal. I have a mum and dad and four siblings, three boys and one girl. I’m the second eldest. I have been doing traditional dance since I was four, and from that time our dad bought some classic dance hip-hop movies and taught us all about other dance skills. There are 40 dialects in Arnhem Land. I can speak four dialects ( Dhatiwuy, Dhalwangu, Djambarrpuyngu and Ngaymil ) but I can understand other dialects too – the ones I can’t speak. English was my last language to learn. I have also been learning sign language, but not in English, in Yolngu version.
