My name is Jamison (Jamie) Byrnes. I’m a proud Wemba Wemba man. I grew up in Albury on Wiradjuri Country. I’ve been dancing since the age of 7. During my 11-year dance experience I’ve been trained in various styles, but mostly enjoy hip hop and contemporary. I studied dance as a high school subject from years 8 to12. I was part of the NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company in 2021, and also participated in the NSW Public Schools State Dance Festival in 2022. I’ve already gained a Certificate II in Dance and I look forward to continuing my dance studies at NAISDA, while also deepening my cultural understanding. My aspiration is to join a professional dance company like Bangarra Dance Theatre or Sydney Dance Company and then become a choreographer.
