Blake Escott

Blake Escott belongs to Dunghutti and Worimi Country and has been fostered on Darkinjung Land for most of his life.
In 2023 Blake performed in ‘ATI’ directed by Deon Hastie. Blake has participated in a range of masterclasses, notably with Thomas ES Kelly and Taree Sansbury from Karul Projects. At NAISDA Blake has studied under Dujon Niue, developing his Moa Island dance technique. He has also learnt from Cultural Tutors from Nyinyikay, developing and deepening his Yolngu dance and cultural knowledge. In 2023 Blake also represented his Ancestors competing in JTF California USA. Blake performed choreography by Henrietta Baird, ‘Fire’ and ‘Smoke’ in NAISDA’s 2024 End of Year Show ‘The Trees have Voices, the Feet have Ears’, directed by Vicki Van Hout.
Blake hopes to explore his own culture and progress his skills development in contemporary dance. Blake’s goal is to become a company dancer with a First Nations dance company, to share culture and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Blake aspires to create work that highlights the displacement of First Nations children and the ongoing removal of children in Indigenous communities. Blake also wishes to share his love of the arts with rural communities including his own.
