Lucy Guerin Inc (LGI), NAISDA and Joel Bray Dance have partnered to create an exciting professional development opportunity supporting NAISDA graduates to transition into the professional dance sector.
In 2026, one NAISDA graduate will be selected to undertake a two-week paid internship, comprising:
One-week secondment with Joel Bray Dance in Brisbane, scheduled between Monday 13 – Friday 24 April 2026
One-week secondment with Lucy Guerin Inc in Melbourne, scheduled between Monday 18 – Friday 29 May 2026
The internship offers the selected artist a supported introduction to life as an independent dance artist, providing insight into professional practice, rehearsal processes and the realities of working within the contemporary dance industry.
Across the two weeks, the intern will engage with professional company environments, build industry connections, attend relevant events, and participate in Melbourne’s vibrant dance ecology. The program is designed to foster confidence, skills and networks that support the graduate’s next steps into professional practice.
The LGI First Nations Graduate Internship reflects a shared commitment by LGI, NAISDA and Joel Bray Dance to create meaningful pathways for emerging First Nations dance artists. The partnership celebrates and nurtures the strength, creativity and leadership of First Nations dancers, supporting their sustained careers in the sector.

This is a competitive application process. Applicants will be assessed based on the following criteria through the application form provided below:

NAISDA will provide you with confirmation of receipt of your application.
NAISDA will review your application with a panel including NAISDA First Nations training staff, and if the panel finds the application fits the criteria, your application will be shortlisted for assessment by LGI and Joel Bray Dance for final selection, this may include a phone interview with Lucy Guerin and Joel Bray.

LGI will provide the Graduate Intern with:
An award-level weekly wage, per diems, and suitable accommodation for the two-week engagement.
Two return economy class airfares: one from NSW to Melbourne and one from NSW to Brisbane.
Complimentary access to selected LGI programs, including company rehearsals, professional classes, and workshops (subject to scheduling).
Digital check-ins before, during, and after the internship to support ongoing engagement throughout the program.
