Before the Reconciliation Hat; Before the Nation were aware, the work Aunty Ev did for community and family without need for recognition but from the heart and the need to help us get it right, Aunty Ev was there, encouraging, inspiring, pushing and leading.

Aunty Ev’s involvement with NAISDA extends way back to the early years; the politically charged years of activism on the streets in the 70s through to her daughters, Dolores & Jewel being students at NAISDA in the 80s.

Aunty Ev’s door was always open to any NAISDA Student who needed help or guidance.

In the words of NAISDA Alumnus & past Staff:

“Aunty Evelyn Scott will always be remembered as an inspiration Aunty and mother to myself and others who were fortunate to learn from as a NAISDA student at Tony Mundine Hostel early 90s. She saved many of us…” – Jeanette Fabilla

“A tower of strength for NAISDA…” – Anne Grieg, NAISDA Course Co-Ordinator, 1980s

Great words from a Great Woman:

“We extend our hand to other Australians. Those Australians who take our hands are those that dare dream of an Australia that could be. In true reconciliation, through the remembering, the grieving and the healing, we can come to terms with our conscience and become as one in the dreaming of this land.”

“What a rich and valuable heritage to leave our children — a 56,000-year culture, thriving in a country at peace with its conscience. “Will you take our hand? Will you dare to share our dream?”

On Behalf of the Staff, Students & Board Members of NAISDA over the past 40+ years we add our condolences to the many thousands from across this land and thank her family for sharing your Mother, Aunty & Grandmother.

Rest Easy Aunty Ev.

Peace and respect,
NAISDA Board staff, Developing Artists, graduates, Alumni.
