Bangarra Dance Theatre is welcoming applications for its 2018 Russell Page Graduate Program.
Initiated in 2015, the Russell Page Graduate Program (RPGP) provides the opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates to develop as professional artists through training, mentoring, and professional development, as well as performance and touring seasons.
Bangarra is seeking one female and one male dance graduate aged between 18 and 23, of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, to work with Bangarra as part of the Russell Page Graduate Program. This unique opportunity will commence in January 2018 for an 11-month period.
The Russell Page Graduate Program is designed to provide support and guidance to the selected graduates as they train and develop alongside the company’s dancers and choreographers in the following focus areas:
1. The role of the artist in a creative cultural context
2. Training: Traditional, Contemporary, Ballet and other dance techniques and somatic practices, (Pilates, Yoga)
3. Physical conditioning and maintenance
4. Professionalism/personal development
5. Evaluation and self-reflection
These focus areas cover the critical knowledge and skills required by professional dancers working in either Bangarra or in independent/freelance contexts.
