Julia is a proud Wagiman Woman from Canberra. She began her contemporary dance journey at Quantum Leap (QL2) in 2016 and has been fortunate to have enjoyed a variety of opportunities with the youth company. Some highlights include performing in four seasons at the Canberra Playhouse; performing in ‘Savage’ Daniel Riley’s first work as Artistic Director of ADT; and choregraphing her own short work, ‘Coloration’ in 2023. Julia also participated in an exchange with Catapult Dance, creating a section for Sue Healy’s film, ‘Meeting Place’ (2022). Julia was also fortunate to travel to Bangkok, Thailand twice; once to tour with Bangkok Dance Academy in 2023 with eight other youth dancers, and again in 2024 to perform a contemporary Indigenous duet that she crated with another First Nations dancer in celebration of the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary.
Julia has been mentored by Ruth Osborne for the past eight years and has worked with many recognised choreographers including Alice Lee Holland, Jack Zeizing, Melenie Lane, Gabrielle Nankivell and Jodie Farrugia. Julia loves dance because of its creative process, and because it allows openness, free from judgement. She looks forward to deepening her learning at NAISDA, with a focus on discovering and strengthening her culture and mob.
