Harlisha Newie-Joe

Harlisha Newie-Joe is a Zenadth Kes woman from Mabuiag and Badu Island from the Goemu and Wagadagam tribe. Harlisha spent most of her life growing up in Weipa, Cape York on Algnith Country. She is currently living on Darkinjung Country on the Central Coast of New South Wales.  Harlisha started training at NAISDA in 2020 and is currently in her fourth year completing her Advanced Diploma of Professional Dance Performance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. She has valued the opportunity of being trained by many professional artists including Angie Diaz, Jasmin Sheppard and Lee Serle. In 2023 Harlisha performed with Jannawi Dance Clan for Dance Rites, NAISDA’S Mid-Year production ATI at Carriageworks, Sydney, was the recipient of the Sharp Short Dance film selection. She was also a successful secondment finalist with Bangarra Dance Theatre. Most recently Harlisha was a recipient of the Perth Moves Bursary for the Perth Moves three-week workshop/intensive program enabling her to work with leading international choreographers and Artistic Directors including Nick Coutsier, Ta’alili (Aotearoa) and Daniel Riley (Australian Dance Theatre).
