Dre Bedford

Dre is a proud Walmajarri, Gooniyandi, and Jaru man from the Central Kimberley. He is 20 years old and spent the majority of his life growing up in Broome on Yawuru Country.
He started dancing as a teenager and later decided to attend NAISDA to further his career. He is currently in his third year, studying for a Certificate IV in Dance Practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. He has been trained by industry professionals, including Jasmine Sheppard, Lee Serle, Chima Valavanis, Angie Diaz, and Hilton Dennis. He has also attended remote Cultural Residencies to Moa Island in 2022 guided by Uncle Dujon Niue and Nyinyikay in 2023 guided by Aunty Heather Mitjangba Burarrwanga and Uncle Tony Mudalyun Ganambarr.

In 2023 Dre performed a prominent role in the full-length work ATI directed by Deon Hastie at Carriageworks, Sydney. He plans to continue his training and study at NAISDA by obtaining an Advanced Diploma of Professional Dance Performance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Dre hopes to further his dance repertoire, cultural knowings, and overall career as a First Nations creative. His professional goal is to join a contemporary dance company such as Bangarra Dance Theatre or Australian Dance Theatre (ADT), becoming a well-respected and accomplished performer and choreographer in his own right.
