Alfred Taahi – Advanced Diploma Coordinator

Alfred hails from Aotearoa is of Te Rarawa, Ngati Kahu and NgaPuhi Iwi.
He is honoured to live on Darkinjung Land and acknowledges that this is Aboriginal Land.

Alfred began his dance training in New Zealand at the age of 8 and later, 13, moved to the UK to complete his training at the Royal Ballet School.

At 16.5 of age he joined the Frankfurt State Opera Ballet Company where he performed many works.

He returned to Aotearoa to join LIMBS dance company working with Douglas Wright, Mark Baldwin and many other notable NZ choreographers.
In 1983 He moved to Sydney to join the Sydney Dance Company under the Artistic Direction of Graham Murphy and Janet Vernon. Alfred Taahi was promoted to Principal Dancer and continued with Company until 1995.

Alfred choreographed works for the SDC, Singapore Dance Theatre, ADT, Opera Australia, and Australian Dancers Company. He has guested with Meryl Tankard, SDC and Bernadette Wylong and Michael Hennessy.

Alfred has worked with and been a performing member of Maori Kapa Haka groups in NZ and Australia. He has taught extensively throughout Sydney and for Professional Dance Companies.

He has been the Advanced Diploma coordinator for NAISDA 2.5 years is looking forward to continuing in this position for many more years.
