Inspired by this year’s NAIDOC theme of Get up, Stand up, Show up, wiri gulgul meaning “Stand Strong” in Darkinjung Language features a powerful collection of cultural dance, contemporary dance, physical theatre works and dancefilms resonating with the rallying cry for reform and change.

For generations our communities and Elders have protested and fought for recognition, restoration and redress. wiri gulgul proudly carries our future generation’s provocations for change, amplifying and articulating a new creative voice of resistance and truth-telling.

Honouring the gift of cultural knowledge, wiri gulgul features NSW Aboriginal song and dance and dances from Moa Island in the Torres Strait, shared and developed under the guiding direction of NAISDA Head of Cultural Practice, Jo Clancy and NAISDA Cultural Tutors, Stuart McMinn and Dujon Niue.

wiri gulgul also presents new works reflecting on the 2022 NAIDOC theme and journey, developed by NAISDA students in collaboration with NAISDA Trainers and Tutors. Indebted to mob, Elders and communities who have forged our path, wiri gulgul’s Messengers of Change follow their footprints to share new contemporary stories of culture, truth and identity.

We invite you to join us by booking your free tickets for one of two onsite presentations or the livestream performance.
