CUA40425 Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services

Course Overview:

This course is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who may have no formal production experience or students who have undertaken some training or have experience in technical production.

This course is delivered over 12 months and is designed to prepare students for careers working behind the scenes across a range of productions and events, providing insight into further study or creative arts industry workforce pathways. Students will develop the knowledge and skills required for working backstage on productions and events, including working with technical equipment and alongside industry professionals.

The course incorporates cultural learnings and Knowings, providing students with an opportunity to develop cultural connection, explore their own Mob as well as other learnings from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across a range of contexts. This prepares students to engage with cultural and mainstream creative arts industries.

Course eligibility
  • Be of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background (evidence required)
  • Be aged between 16 to 26 years
  • Be an Australian citizen
  • Have parent or guardian consent if under 18 years of age
Entry Requirements
  • Some experience of, or desire to work in Live Production or events
  • Some knowledge in at least one area of technical production such as lighting, sound, vision, staging or stage management (This will be assessed during auditions)
  • A supporting reference letter outlining production experience, suitability and readiness for the safe engagement in the course
  • Evidence of relevant knowledge and skills by providing
    • A copy of a Statement of Attainment or Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services, if previously completed
    • Equivelant work experience and training in production (must be included in reference letter)
  • Mid-level of Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN), and Digital Literacy skills assessment results
  • Motivation and passion to pursue a career in the creative arts industry
  • Enthusiasm, focus and engagement during audition activities
  • Respect for themselves, others and collaborative team activities and environments
Learning and Job Outcomes

Upon successful completion Developing Artists may be able to:

  • Pursue further studies pathways such as a Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services or a university bachelor degree in Design, Props, Sets and Costume, Lighting, Sound or Stage Management
  • Progress into the creative industry workforce as an audio or lighting technician, assistant stage manager, production coordinator or a set, costume, props, sound or lighting design assistant
