NAISDA is recognised as Australia’s premier First Nations training college for the performing arts. Based on Darkinjung Country on the Central Coast of NSW, NAISDA is an established not-for-profit organisation and registered training organisation (RTO).
The Role
Manages the Dance Practice team members and works collaboratively with the Head of Teaching & Learning and training staff to deliver the annual dance program for NAISDA Dance College; from Certificate III through to Advanced Diploma. This is accompanied with responsibility for the management of learning progression and achievement for the Diploma year cohort.
Responsibilities
- Lead, source and engage a team of dance trainers
- Implements the dance practice curriculum on an annual basis including attendance at performances
- Ensures dance trainers at NAISDA are experts in the chosen disciplines
- Works with the Creative Producer on the implementation of NAISDA performance outcomes and creative engagements such as the Mid-Year and End of Year Shows and corporate performances
- Ensure Indigenous Knowings are embedded in all dance units at the College
- Lead, develop and deliver an effective annual audition and orientation programme
- Lead and support the cultural and academic development of each DA within the Diploma cohort
- Deliver classes in line with each Unit’s requirements
- Be an active member of the NAISDA Board of Studies
- Be a member of required external committees
- Teach Contemporary Indigenous/Contemporary Dance in accordance with agreed program requirements
Your success profile will include:
- You must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. This is a designated position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the exemption granted by the NSW Anti Discrimination Board.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Relevant degree or equivalent work experience in the dance sector
- Demonstrated experience and leader in the Indigenous national and international dance sector
- Demonstrated understanding of the National and International dance sector
- Has a high-level body of artistic work
- Experience and ability to design create and deliver an Indigenous dance program
- A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated teaching skills
- Proven conflict resolution ability

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Current NSW Drivers licence
- Intermediate MS Office skills
- Ability to learn the NAISDA SMS aXcelerate
- Willingness to work outside of standard work hours when required
- Experience within the Not-for-Profit / Performing Arts sector desirable
