Visual Artist In Residence: Grant Molony - 29.06.22

NAISDA was honoured to welcome leading artist and Guringai man Grant Molony to NAISDA as its Visual Artist in Residence 2022.

Grant grew up on Darkinjung Country and during his residency has guided NAISDA Developing Artists during a series of onsite workshops and gatherings to produce two beautiful large-scale artworks celebrating community, identity, respect and ownership.

Our recent Graduation Ceremony was a time to come together in celebration of the talent, drive and transformation of our graduating students. It was equally a time to recognise the supporting
role of family and community on their learning journeys.

We were therefore delighted to unveil the stunning panels which beautifully framed the graduation stage and were commissioned especially for this significant occasion.

We are extremely grateful to Grant for the generous sharing of knowledge and skills and to our Developing Artists for their creative works which resonate with stories of Country, connection and culture.

Artist’s Statement

A story in essence of giving and receiving. Salt and fresh water and the place these waters meet in the middle. The interwoven connection of us all to mother herself. Spoken through balance, movement and scale. Layers made by or directly referenced of the Developing Artists themselves. A deeply personal yet universally readable message of convergence.

I complete my time here leaving inspired and grateful. The freedom in which the Developing Artists shared story and dove into the process was incredible to be a part of.
