Thank you for your interest in auditioning for NAISDA Dance College.

NAISDA graduates have shaped Australia’s performing arts landscape for over 40 years and are recognised as our country’s leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancers, choreographers, independent artists and creative and cultural innovators and pioneers.

In response to this year’s challenges presented by COVID 19, our application and audition process has been moved online to keep everyone safe, being mindful of travel restrictions and to ensure a fair and equitable process for all.

Before completing this form, please ensure you have read all the general information and audition process on our website.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Aged between 16 and 26

Stage 1 – Apply to Audition

You are invited to complete the following form online to apply to audition at NAISDA. When completing your form, it is a good idea to have all your attachments and information organised in advance as it will make it easier to complete your application. Please note that you can save your progress and return to the form at a later date if required.

This includes:

  • A Headshot photo of yourself
  • A 1-2 minute video of yourself performing a dance piece of your choice. This is not compulsory and will not influence your progression to Stage 2 of the audition process.

The following information is not compulsory at this stage, however if you successfully pass the audition process, this information will be required before enrolment can be confirmed for 2021.

  • Acknowledgement of your Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Heritage
  • Academic certificates/most recent transcript your completed education
  • A bio or resume

If you are under 18, an acknowledgement of consent will be required from your parent or guardian.

Applications to audition in Stage 1 will remain open until: 23 October 2020

Please note: We encourage applicants to complete and submit this form as early as possible to give successful applicants maximum preparation time for subsequent audition stages and tasks.

Stage 2 – Online Audition Packs

Online Audition Packs will be sent to successful applicants from 3 August – 30 October.

We will contact you within 5 working days of receiving your application form. Successful applicants will be invited to audition online and emailed an audition pack. This will include links to a series of pre-recorded lessons in Cultural Dance, Contemporary Indigenous and Contemporary Dance Technique, Ballet and Urban Dance.

Auditionees will be asked to learn the exercises and upload a video of themselves completing them according to the information provided in the audition pack.

Auditionees will also need to upload:

  • A video of themselves performing a solo performance (between 1-2 minutes)
  • A short video introducing themselves and why they wish to study at NAISDA (up to 3 minutes)

All audition videos and content should be uploaded and submitted to NAISDA by 30 October.

Although not compulsory, NAISDA will also send links to join live, or access recorded versions, of online classes between 17 August – 2 October (information regarding how to do this will be included in your audition pack). The classes will include Cultural Dance, Contemporary Indigenous and Contemporary Dance Technique, Ballet and Urban Dance.

An online live Q&A session with NAISDA trainers and staff will also be available during this time.

Stage 3 – Online interviews

Online interviews from 5 – 30 October

Applicants who successfully complete the previous stages will be invited to attend individual interviews with the audition team so we can get to know you better and assess physical readiness, wellbeing, language, literacy and numeracy and life skills.

NAISDA will contact you to arrange convenient interview times once you have successfully completed the previous audition stages.
